Prince Kūhiō

Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole was a leader who sought to elevate the educational status of Native Hawaiians and to empower them to be engaged in community activities and to address issues of concern to Native Hawaiians. The Prince Kūhiō Festival honors the life and contributions of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole, founder of the Hawaiian Civic Club movement and proponent of the Hawaiian Homestead Act of 1920. We endeavor to educate the public, visitor and resident alike, about the accomplishments of one of Hawai‘i’s distinguished historic figures, Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole
