Legacy Contest

Name: Prince Kūhiō Legacy Essay Contest

Date: February – March

The Prince Kūhiō Legacy contest is an essay and creative writing contest open to students in the 7th grade through the 11th grade. Students are asked to submit an essay/mele/ʻoli referencing Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole – “Ke Ali‘i Maka‘āinana” (The Citizen Prince). Examples may include: “What Prince Kūhiō might think of today’s world and why,” “A fictional story around an actual event in the life of Prince Kūhiō,” or “Who was Prince Kūhiō and How has he affected you?” First and second place gift card prizes will be awarded to each grade level. First place is $250 and second place is $100.
